Intro
Coffs Harbour rocks. The town rocks, the beach rocks and the trails rock. Coffs Harbour is home to some of the best mountain bike trails in Australia. Basically because of quality of the terrain and the soil all the trails are very special. I have been to Coffs Harbour once and only scratched the surface of the trails Available

XC location: Wedding Bell State forest
Whereis link

A couple of hundred metres along Bucca Road, off the pacific highway there is a dirt car park across from the waste plant. This is the trail head of the Cross country loop. The loop start is the second singletrack entrance you see on the left. There is a bit of a log garden at the start of the course. From there the track flows through the bush. With few hills and open big ring corners you can get some serious speed along these tracks. When I was there some bunting and arrows were set up which showed the way around the tracks. Even without these you shouldn’t get lost. The first section of the track pops out at the dirt car park again. Keep spinning across to the other side of the car park and head down the fire road there. You will enter some more single track which flows along next to the highway for a bit before diving back into the rainforest. The flowy singletrack continues before you pump over a large log rollover and back to the start of the loop. When I was there the only other traffic I saw were a few motor bikers. The ones I encountered were great as they stopped and pulled over when they saw me. This loop is great and I saw heaps of other single tracks heading of into the bush so I’m sure there is more to offer in this area.

DH location: Mt Coramba
Whereis link

Jump back in your car after doing the cross country loop and its only a short scenic drive through banana farms to reach the Mt Coramba Down hill track. This track is by ar the best I have ever ridden. Once at the top of the Coramba road ( can be very slippery in the wet- why is it that all downhillers drive like they ride) You will see the start of the track.

Take a few pedals through the top clearing and drop down into the rock garden. Hit two large drops into some rocky singletrack ending in a short climb near the shuttle road. This is by far the hardest bit of the track and is a good test to see if you are ready for the whole track. From their head down steep singletrack into a large jump over a tree stump. Touch down 30 foot later and fold into two tight switchbacks. Get way back over the rollover and sprint round the berm. From there it is more flowy fast singletrack. There are plenty of berms and jumps and a couple of north shore ramps before you pedal down into a sweet tabletop near the shuttle road. Keep pinning along with more jumps and flow through the rainforest. The soft smooth soil gives loads of traction so you can hit most of the corners brakeless if you do them right. Speed, speed, speed as you come out onto the shuttle road for a few metres before sprinting up a short rise. Hang a left into more singletrack cross a fire road and you enter this sweet section with loads of drops into berms. Choose from two lines off a north shore structure and start pedalling hard through the flattest bit of the track. Jump and then roll down a north shore ramp, over a kicky double jump and you’re done.

Its hard to describe in words how flowy this track is- it has to be ridden.

the tree stump jump- kudos to pylet for the pic

Bike Shops
I was lucky enough to not need a bike shop while I was down there but Ventoux Cycles helped me out with finding the trails. I have also heard that Bob Wallis Cycles is a great bike store

Accommodation
I stayed at Emerald Beach Holiday Park( http://www.ebhp.com.au) which is right on the beach and only a few minutes from the riding places.

If you have any more information or pictures of Coffs harbour send them to mikey@wheel-world.net
I am aware that the whereis links dont work very well. If any one has a map they have permission to use that would be great.

Thats mark-e-mark in that photo isn't it?

We have made a few changes to the track now so read this as well.
The last part of the track where you jump that little kicker has all been rebuilt. There are now no more little humps just befor you go down the board walk. Now there is one kicker and you just jump and land on the ramp and then go and hit the jump. The jump down the bottom is now about twice the size it was befor (its about 20 foot now)
There are two little doubles after the ski jump which is just after the table top.Be carefull on these and the second one if you dont make it you will end up in a bad shape.
While i was in the mood to type stuff i thought that i would do a track description as well.

After the top rock garden where you start going down the single track there is now a line built of to the side which has got a decent sized drop in it that goes of a ramp. Have a look at it before you drop it as it is very easy to over clear it and flat land it.
The bottom of that single track that goes of to the side comes out just before the 30 footer and if you pedal your ass of you can still jump the 30 footer. Just after the 30 footer where you enter the bush there used to be a corner which had lots of little roots all over it. Now the track goes straight and into a berm which sends you down over a little log before the log drop. After the log drop you will then go down over some nice flowy parts of the track and it has got some good roots on the corners. You will then enter into a section that we all call "pinkies". This section is going though rain forest and is very tight and windy and slippery when wet. The part after this is a long part of single track which you can pick up a lot of speed and then you go over a water bar and down a steep lefthander over some old water bars which have been all smashed and now are bumpy as hell. There is a berm at the bottom of this section that is now pretty good and mean you can hit the corners a lot harder. The track then goes into another windy bit with some berms and a of camber part and then down a steep clay wall thing. The next part of the track is the steep hill which is he run into the table top. You can reach some serious speeds down there (some people hit 80 kilometers per hour down this part of the track). The table top is about 35 foot long and can be easily flat land so don’t hit it with to much speed. After the table top there is a mound that can be rolled or if you hit it with speed can be doubled which gives you heaps of speed for the next section which is a fast little rock garden and then straight onto some of camber action that is a great part of the track. After the of camber section you come to the ski jump. If you can come around that corner at full speed touch the brakes a bit as you will flat land it and loose all of your speed for the next section which is only new and has got 2 jumps in it.
One jumps is only little and the second one is about 20 foot long, and if you make both of them good you should have heaps of speed to roll up the up hill section which then leads into some more nice single track and a wheely fast big berm.(Do not go straight and down the fire road as the old guy that owns the land does not like mountain bikers and he will harm you if he catches you). After the big fast berm the track cuts across a fire road and then goes into your chose of a shite ass drop into a berm or a wheely tight and loose corner when then joins back onto the same track and takes you into the next drop into berm and then winds down some more into another corner. After this last little corner there is like a 4 meter up hill bit but if you pinnn the corner you should not have to pedal at all. The next corner is like a flat corner and then you will hit another berm after this, and then goes down a little windy part and then you drop of the a or b line drop. Both of these drops are small so you don’t have to wheely worry to much about them. There is another up hill section after these two drop which will mean that you will have to drop it into the low gears to get up it on big bikes. After that it then goes into a berms which is great to hit with heaps of speed and then down a wheely fast part of the track which you can get some pedals into to make the little kicker and land onto the wooden ramp which then shoots you down to the new jumps which is just a big table top and then a fast pedal to the finish line and then you have done the hole track and then load up and go again.

Cheers kev
P.S ill try to find some pictures as well
